Sona Masuri (also, Sona Masoori, Samba Masuri, BPT 5204, HMT, or Jeela Karra Masuri) is a medium-grain rice grown largely in the Indian states. Available as white, steam, paraboiled( white and golden sella),brown rice.
Sona Mahsuri is high yielding rice variety which is very popular in preparation of rice porridge. It is evolved from two popular rice varieties sona and Mahsuri. Mahsuri is medium tall with short fine grains and very tasty. It has special character of highly nitrogen responsiveness. Sona is a Super fine grain. It has small problem of thresh ability. By crossing these two, sona mahsuri is developed. It is a premium kind of rice. It is very popular and mostly cultivated in particular regions of India. Sona Masoori Rice is best suited for weight loss as it has less starch, contains dietary fibers, and easily digestible.
